RONIN ISLAND and MECH CADET YU make list of Best Graphic Novels (You’ve Never Heard Of)

Ronin Island #1 cover

Bookriot just published a list of the Best Graphic Novels You’ve Never Heard Of. While you, dear reader, have undoubtedly heard of all of my work, I’m happy to report that Mech Cadet Yu and Ronin Island have both made the list!

I’m ridiculously proud of these books, both of which were originally greenlit by BOOM! Studios as four issue all ages minis, but both did so well they were upgraded to 12 issue epics. Mech Cadet Yu was drawn by the great Takeshi Miyazawa with colors by Triona Farrell and Jessica Kholinne and letters by Simon Bowland. Ronin Island was drawn by the awesome Giannis Milonogiannis with colors by Irma Kniivila and letters by Simon Bowland.

And right now for just a couple of weeks, you can buy signed copies of the first volumes of both books for cover price at the Greg Pak Shop! Please do check ’em out, and thanks as always!

I’m donating signed comics to the Kidlit Against Anti-Asian Racism Auction Fundraiser – and you can, too!

2020.07.01 – RONIN ISLAND #12 in stores today

RONIN ISLAND #12 cover

I’m both thrilled and sad to report that the final issue of RONIN ISLAND hit stores today. Working on this book has been one of the great joys of my career, and I’m so grateful to line artist Giannis Milonogiannis, colorist Irma Kniivila, letterer Simon Bowland, cover colorist Michele Assarasakorn, all the variant cover artists including Ethan Young, and everyone at BOOM! who worked so hard to make the book so special, including our wonderful editors Eric Harburn, Amanda LaFranco, and Cameron Chittock.

RONIN ISLAND was originally supposed to be an eight issue maxi-series. But readers and retailers supported it so strongly that we were able to extend to a full twelve issues and give the story all the room it needed to breathe. Writing this book has been an exercise in simplicity and honesty for me — I’ve done my best every step of the way to hone in on the core emotional moments in every scene, and having collaborators with such tremendous sensitivity and heart has been an incredible blessing.

Giannis Milonogiannis's original designs for Kenichi and Hana, the main characters of RONIN ISLAND.

Amanda just tweeted the image above of Giannis Milonogiannis’s original character designs of our two main heroes with the note “I’ve been rooting for these two since the beginning.” I feel that sentiment in my bones, and thank everyone who’s been reading and supporting the book for making this all possible.

Ask your local comic shop to hold a copy of RONIN ISLAND #12 for you today.

2020.03.11 – STAR WARS: DARTH VADER #2 and RONIN ISLAND #11 in stores today!

Absolutely thrilled to have two big books in comic book shops today. I’m hugely proud of both STAR WARS: DARTH VADER #2 and RONIN ISLAND #11. Both books feature huge reveals in big emotional stories and I can’t wait for you to get your hands on ’em.

STAR WARS: DARTH VADER #2 features the huge reveal of what’s going on with the mysterious figure on the cover. A deep emotional dive into Vader’s dark psyche as well as a ominous thriller in the making. Cover by Inhyuk Lee, interior art by Raffaele Ienco, colors by Neeraj Menon, letters by Joe Caramagna, editing by Mark Paniccia and Tom Groneman.

RONIN ISLAND #11 is the penultimate issue in the series! Everything’s coming to a head and the emotional stakes have never been higher. Art by Giannis Milonogiannis, colors by Irma Kniivila, letters by Simon Bowland, editing by Eric Harburn and Amanda LaFranco.

2020-02-12 – RONIN ISLAND #10 in comic shops today!

RONIN ISLAND #10 arrives in comic book shops today, February 12. The book’s written by yours truly with line art by Giannis Milonogiannis, colors by Irma Kniivila, letters by Simon Bowland, and editing by Eric Harburn and Amanda LaFranco. Click here for the full preview and ask your local shop to hold a copy for you!

And not to brag or anything (okay, I’m bragging), here’s what Multiversity Comics has to say about the book:

Greg Pak and Giannis Milonogiannis’s ronin saga has featured rich, rare storytelling style that really breathes and carries tons of dramatic heft in an unassuming package. Pak is one of comics’ low key best writers across the board, but he especially shines in the creator-owned arena.

2019.11.13 – STAR WARS #74, RONIN ISLAND #8, and AGENTS OF ATLAS #4 in stores today!

Big day today! I’ve got three books in comic book stores — STAR WARS #74, RONIN ISLAND #8, and AGENTS OF ATLAS #4!

STAR WARS #74, drawn by Phil Noto with letters by Clayton Cowles, is the penultimate chapter in our run. The three different threads of our story come together as our heroes scramble to entrap Vader himself! Featuring the Wookiee/Sith fight you’ve always wanted!

RONIN ISLAND #8 features art by Giannis Milonogiannis, colors by Irma Kniivila, and letters by Simon Bowland. This remains one of my favorite projects I’ve worked on this decade, and the emotional stakes ramp up again in this issue for Hana and Kenichi. In a rave review, Fanbase Press says:

In issue number 8, a character is faced with having to make a difficult choice, and they don’t just continue on unaffected by it; they stop, and the reader is allowed to live in the character’s emotions. It’s a beautiful moment, and one of the reasons I love Ronin Island.

You can read the whole review here.

AGENTS OF ATLAS #4 features art by Nico Leon and Pop Mhan, colors by Rachelle Rosenberg, and letters by Joe Sabino. I love the little character moments that Nico and Pop are rendering so beautifully in this book. Don’t miss Wave and Sword Master finally getting paid and Isaac flirting with Raz! And yes, we’re getting up into major cliffhanger action here — with big ramifications for the upcoming ATLANTIS ATTACKS series!

Ask your local comic shop to hold all these comics for ya! Thanks so much!

2019.04.10 – TARKIN #1, LEIA #1, and RONIN ISLAND #2 in stores today!

I’m thrilled to have three big books in comic shops today!

If you’re a Star Wars fan, please don’t miss STAR WARS AGE OF REBELLION: GRAND MOFF TARKIN #1 and STAR WARS AGE OF REBELLION: LEIA #1. Both are one shots that tell in-continuity stories about those lead characters, shedding new light on classic turning points in the movies.

LEIA #1 was beautifully drawn by Chris Sprouse, Karl Story, Will Sliney, and Marc Deering, with vibrant colors by Tamra Bonvillain and letters by Travis Lanham, and cover by Terry and Rachel Dodson. Here’s an excerpt from the 5/5 ComicBook.com review:

…this book offers a thrilling adventure that feels fully in line with the Leia we’ve come to know and love, all while filling in a missing chapter in the character’s journey to rescue Han.

TARKIN was drawn by Marc Laming with colors by Jordan Boyd and Neeraj Menon with letters by Travis Lanham and a cover by Terry and Rachel Dodson. Here’s an excerpt from the 5/5 ComicBook.com review:

This book is a must-read for fans of Tarkin or the original movie in general, delivering an all-new perspective of a beloved character who you’ll never look at the same again.

Ronin Island #2 cover

And don’t miss RONIN ISLAND #2, with art by Giannis Milonogiannis, colors by Irma Kniivila, and letters by Simon Bowland. RONIN ISLAND was recently upgraded from a five issue miniseries to a full twelve issues due to the incredible support of readers and retailers — come see what the fuss is all about! Here’s a blurb from the five star Comics Bulletin review:

Ronin Island #2 is the rare, perfect situation where a great writer finds the right art team to breathe life into his script. It was clear that Pak, Milogiannis, and Kniivila had a vision after the first issue, but upon finishing up this installment it’s evident that they’re creating something truly special. Now extended to a 12-issue maxiseries, Ronin Island is a true, all-ages adventure with elements of action, horror, and heart that should not be missed.
